How do you turn a room full of bored executives into a boardroom full of people who want to take action?

Good question.

According to a recent Harvard Business Review survey, 71% of senior-level managers said meetings are unproductive and inefficient. Research suggests that these unproductive meetings waste over 37 billion dollars per year.

That’s a lot of cash.

Think about the last unproductive meeting you had.

If you’re like most people,  you spent part of your time checking email, daydreaming, or multi-tasking.

What a waste of time.

So, what do we do about it?

I asked one of my friends, a senior level healthcare executive, why he thinks meetings are unproductive and (ahem) boring. 

He gave me answers you’d expect like;  not sticking to the agenda, not having a group goal, too many participants, etc.

However, he offered one insight which you’ll find helpful as you get ready for your next meeting.

He said; “When you’re in a room (boardroom or otherwise) you have the opportunity to tap into the minds of brilliant people. Remember that.”

“Brilliant people.”

They’ll be thinking, “Tell something I haven’t heard before. Tell me this was worth me being here. Tell me why I’m here and not at home drinking coffee in my pjs”.

Tell me something I haven’t heard before.

Now that’s a way you can take a room full of bored executives and turn it into a boardroom full of interested executives.
