My friend Darcy put this little gem in our annual white elephant gift exchange. I laughed so hard when I opened it…so hard. Then I tried to hide it with my hands until the game was over.

Unfortunately, Joe had eyes for it.

When he took it from me, I was miffed.

I had to bide my time, staring down my friends, mentally willing them not to take it.

I was so close to losing it. Chris eyeballed it pretty hard. However, he decided he’d rather take the Ugly Christmas Kitten sweater home to his wife.

Finally, it was my turn and I took the book. (actually I pried it out of Joe’s hands.)

It was mine…all mine!!!

My excitement might seem a bit ridiculous when I tell you that I can’t really name any of Snoop Dogg songs.

Well, I sort of can. There’s the one that goes “Snoop Doggie Doooooooooooooooggggggggggg“. You know that one? I am aware that he’s a fan of sipping’ on gin and juice.

And, in reality, it’s going to be a while before I try out the recipes (enticing as Go Shorty, It’s Your Birthday Cake sounds).

I wanted the book for a different reason.

As soon as I saw it, I knew that it would tell a good story.

How’d I know it’d be good?

Look at the title.  It’s a classic storytelling format.   It’s what I call From-To and more often than not, these stories are inspiring.

You see, whether or not you’re a fan of Mr. Dogg, the story of how a former crook turned himself into a cook is intriguing. The title tricks your brain into filling in the story before you ever flip through the pages.

Why does this matter to you?

You came from somewhere and got to where you are today.

The stuff that happened in the middle is the good stuff.  The stuff we all want to know.

Where you started from. How you got to where you are now.  What you experienced and learned along the way.

You have a From-To story.

Like most of the people that read this blog, you’re a leader. Someone who wants to engage, connect with and inspire your team.

But do the people you work with know your From-To story?

These stories are the kind people want to hear over and over again. The kind people want to share and maybe even steal.

Your people want…no….they need to hear your From-To story.
Isn’t it time you start sharing?
